это третья для меня локация по Кэрролу (Оксфорд, Дарсбери, Гилдфорд, хотя хронологически, конечно, Дарсбери как место рождения должна стоять на первом месте).

Гилдфорд - город, где жили сестры Кэрролла, куда приезжал он, где умер и был похоронен.
В некоторых источниках пишут, что единственное, чем знаменит город, это смерть и место упокоения "сказочника".
В других напоминают про местные университет и колледж, замок (не моложе 11 века), отличные места для прогулок и шоппинга. Ну и опять же про Кэррола.

Собираю тут все подряд, из того, что хочу посмотреть.

Замок, однозначно. + в саду есть статуя Алисы.
К 1888 году донжон был восстановлен и прилегающая территория была открыта для широкой публики в качестве парка. В 2003-4 годах после дополнительной реконструкции донжона были восстановлены крыша и пол на уровне первого этажа. Прогуливаясь в окрестностях замка по прекраснейшему парку можно увидеть любопытный памятник всемирно известному литературному персонажу, а именно героине произведений английского писателя Льюиса Кэрролла девочке Алисе. Льюис Кэрролл жил неподалеку в одном из районов Гилдфорда, и похоронен на городском кладбище (Mount cemetery).

Lewis Carroll died in Guildford (14 January 1898). He lies buried in The Mount Cemetery, Guildford.
The plaque outside his Guildford home, The Chestnuts, was designed by local children, who have managed to incorporate many of his characters. An attempt was made to steal the plaque in 2005 and it was removed for safekeeping.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Lewis Carroll (1998), a number of events were planned in Guildford, including an exhibition later in the year.
The Guildford Lewis Carroll Centenary Festival took place in Guildford, 7-17 May 1998.
The Guildford Museum contains a Lewis Carroll gallery.

Guildford has been associated with the 1863 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland because of its importance in the life of its author, Lewis Carroll. There are several reminders of this connection throughout the town. Guildford Museum has a collection of items belonging to Carroll, see above. In addition to this, sculptor Jean Argent created two full-size bronze sculptures of Alice passing through the Looking-Glass and Alice and the White Rabbit and can be found in the Castle Grounds and by the River Wey at the partly cobbled street, Millmead respectively.

Moving the family to Chestnuts
читать дальше In 1868, Carrolls father tragically died, leaving him in charge of his six unmarried sisters. It is then that he came to Surrey, looking for a house to rent for his family, and eventually settled on a property called the Chestnuts overlooking Guildford Castle.
Although Carroll continued to live and work in Oxford, he visited his sisters often and during a stay at the Chestnuts, in 1871, he completed a sequel: Through The Looking Glass.
Carroll was fond of walking over the North Downs and it is thought
that during a walk across the Hogs Back he came up with his 1875 poem, The Hunting of the Snark.
Lewis Carrolls final resting place
Lewis Carroll diedon January 14 1898 at the Chestnuts andwas buried nearby at the Mount Cemetery, where a cross erected for him by his sisters can be seen to this day.
His family continued to live at the Chestnuts for some years into the twentieth century. A memorial plaque to Lewis Carroll was put on the wall outside but was removed in 2005 after an attempted theft.
Alice in Wonderland statues
Alice herself is still present in Guildford, for those who know where to look: in the form of two statues created by Jean Argent. One features an early scene from the first book of Alice sitting with her sister as nearby a rabbit runs down a hole. This can be found next to the River Wey at Millmead. The other depicts Alice partway through the Looking Glass and is in the Castle Gardens.
While, at Guildford Museum, you can find objects owned by the family during their time at the Chestnuts. The museum is to hold an exhibition Curiouser and Curiouser the lifetime and legacy of Lewis Carroll later this year, from Saturday July 10 to Saturday September 18. The exhibition will include pictures taken by Lewis Carroll, which are on loan from the Lewis Carroll Society.
Meanwhile, Surrey History Centre in Woking also holds several significant archives relating to the great author.
